Sector information

An important element of the credit analysis is analysis of the company's microenvironment, in another words: close environment, sectoral (industry) or competitive environment. The microenvironment includes all economic entities having cooperative or competitive ties. According M.E. Porter, the most important factors of the microenvironment are the bargaining power of the suppliers and customers, the threat of new products and substitutes (potential competition and substitution). Microenvironment feature is that between the parties there is a feedback loop of an economic nature.

Microenvironment therefore specifies the conditions for the functioning and development of the companies in a specific industry or a specific market. It is not difficult to note that the concept of trade, industry or market, are difficult to determine, both in theory and in practice. Thus, analysis of the competitive environment M.E. Porter brought to the analysis of the sector.

The sector is part of the industry grouping companies producing goods or services for similar purposes and selling them on the same geographic market. The criterion for separating a particular sector is the use by its participants from the same sources of supply and meeting the needs of the same customers.

Determining the boundaries of product and geographic sector allows you to specify the basic parameters: size, dynamics and age, as well as profitability and its participants. An important element of the enterprise environment with a diversified portfolio of production is to identify the sectors of activity and a separate study of each of them.

The aim of the sectoral analysis is to answer the following questions:

  1. What is the attractiveness of the sector examined from the point of view of opportunities and threats for the development of the company?
  2. Which sectors supported by an enterprise produce better and which worse possibilities of development, which is essential for the formation of a strategic portfolio of products or services?
  3. What new, attractive sectors could in the future be areas of economic activity of the enterprise?

In general, to analyze the microenvironment used the following methods:
